Brief

Concept

This was college project, in the second year of my studies. The brief required that we create a catalogue, using the content of an essay that we had written earlier in the year.
Having written about the mods of the 1960s, I decided to focus on the notorious relationship between the mods and the rockers during this time. Although the mods and the rockers were at war with each other, neither subculture could have been at strong and unique without the other. They 'coexisted'. I explored collage and clashing patterns as a visual representation of the way in which the two sides contrasted, yet worked strongly against each other.

Collage Illustration

The patterns and colours used in my images have a very obvious clashing look, just as the mods and rockers clashed. The cut and paste feel of the imagemaking is borrowed from the era during which these subcultures existed.
