This project was a collaboration with students from the Film & TV programme in IADT. The brief asked us to create an opening title sequence for the short film entitled "The Cyclops" written by Hugh Mulhern and Noel Murphy. The Cyclops is an examination of the deterioration of fraternal love, and follows 17 year old Lip as he tries to figure out how to protect himself and his mother from the older brother that used to protect him.
For this title sequence, I wanted to create a feeling of nostalgia, focusing on the relationship between brothers Lip and Luca, and their loss of innocence. Using found VHS footage of two brothers, I wanted to create a 'home-video' feel, focusing on the great relationship between Lip and Luca as children. As well as this feeling of nostalgia, I wanted to hint at the feeling of foreboding, as illustrated in the glitching typography and descending minor notes in the music.
